NEW CONSTRUCTION OF A RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

competition: 2nd prize

Invitation only competition 2nd prize / 5 small town houses / continuing and interpreting the existing suburban houses / formulating new qualities / variety of living / flexibility of the floor layout

The people who live in Graz, Austria appreciate that despite being a city, it still has that “Small Town Feeling.“ This small town sensibility is why proportions, identification and privacy play a leading role in the design decisions in this community. This concept explores the questions: Could the housing of the future satisfy these ideals or even much more? Would it be possible to generate them? The answer lies beyond all conventionally multi-story housing structures. Five Small Town Houses, within their proportion and diversity, incorporate the character and the spirit that is unique to this place and generates new qualities, like big outdoor-spaces The people who live here have a feeling of living in their “own house” and also being a part of a greater community.
