protestant chapel state hospital graz / symbol of life / a metaphorical interpretation of the tree of life / uplifted / embedded in the alley / a spiritual artistic synthesis
The new Protestant oratory at the State Hospital Graz is not just a building in the classical sense but it’s also a symbol of life, and the metaphorical interpretation of the Tree of Life. The design concept reveals three trees grown together on the main alee of the state hospital in Graz. The building is a subtle intervention, visible and reserved, and at the same time extremely particular. The hospital also provides a place of retreat, reflection and devotion. Upon entering, the visitor is uplifted from the hectic activity on the street, and finds himself in the crown of the trees.
