THE GOLDEN DUNE OF CAIRO

COMPETITION ENTRY FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION OF THE GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM IN CAIRO
competition: Entry 2002
expansion and integration / metallic shape rising from the desert / complex organism / the way to the golden mask of Tutankhamon / the "non-existing" pyramid
The new "Great Egyptian Museum" is more than just a building. It is a symbol that shines like a vision of the 3rd millennium, in which nature and technology, mysterious past and distant future, are united. The highly developed museum finds an unmistakable identity as a Golden Dune, the complex envisioned and executed by INNOCAD for the world-wide stage. The structure is rising from the desert, reflecting the sun, whose metallic shape melts with what was already there before the age of the pyramids. However, as visitors approach the Golden Dune they slowly begin to suspect the inner world that awaits them. The Golden Dune is a fine example of INNOCAD highlighting duality between symbolism and functionality and using it in the design.
