We are deeply honored that our CEO, Co-Founder and Design Director Martin Lesjak contributes to this year´s Continuing Education Unit (CEU) program at NeoCon in Chicago. The session „Holistic Buildings: translating biophilic design strategies into the built environment“ manifests 13&9‘s and INNOCAD‘s humanistic and democratic design approach shown at recently completed MAM competence center. Martin Lesjak invited one of the leading scientists for fractal patterns, Dr. Richard Taylor, to discuss how stress-reductive qualities and biophilic design strategies can be implemented in the workplace. 13&9 Design and INNOCAD were part of interdisciplinary thinking hub “Museumsakademie” by Universalmuseum Joanneum with the topic “The museum as soundscape – possibilities of acoustic exhibition design” from April 25th-26th, 2022 in Bern, Switzerland. The event, fostered the exchange and collaboration of sound designers, curators, and exhibition designers, charting the field of audible experiences and emphasizing how sound, noise, and silence could be content and “tool.” Martin Lesjak was contributing the keynote talk “Storytelling with Sound Design,” that exemplified the subject by INNOCAD’s most recent exhibition project “how it was. Space and History” at History Museum Graz, where he created an immersive sound installation in collaboration with Severin Su x 13&9 Design.

INNOCAD was part of 20th anniversary edition of Viennese architecture festival Architekturfestival TURN ON and we are looking back with gratitude on several contributions, fostering the dialogue between architecture and construction industry. INNOCAD´s keynote presented the recently finished hotel THE ROCK Radisson RED Vienna, the first one in German-speaking area. The talk by partner and project leader Oliver Kupfner on Friday, March 4th, 2022 elaborated the monolithic building`s facade design in cooperation with PREFA .

INTERVIEW MARTIN LESJAK FOR ARCHITONIC`S OFFICE DESIGN WEEK

The Office Design Week, hosted by number-one online community for architecture and design Architonic, focuses on how architects and designers can support well-being in offices and how design serves to drive changes in behavioral culture. Director Editorial, Simon Keane-Cowell, interviewed four renowned office experts, such as Peter Ippolito (Ippolito Fleitz Group - Identity Architects), Julian Weyer (C.F. Møller Architects), Lauren Touhey-Otto (KINZO Berlin) and 13&9 Design’s and INNOCAD’s Martin Lesjak. Addressing the importance of human-centered design, Lesjak elaborates on the question “How can we create spaces according to elementary human needs?” in order to create community-based, inspiring as well as creativity and innovation enhancing workplaces and to foster health and well-being by implementing biophilic design strategies.

DESIGN4ARCHITECTS invited Anastasija and Martin Lesjak to host and curate a panel discussion for #WERFTSCHAU, that took place in Werft Kroneuburg on October 15th! The panel, focusing on 13&9 Design`s and INNOCAD architecture`s holistic design approach “NEW HOLISM”, included renowned international designers and scientists with diverse background. Special thanks to the panelists Philipp Brandstätter (Interior Designer Branddesigners, AT), Stefan Diez (Diez Office, DE), Markus Jehs (Designstudio Jehs + Laub, DE), Leo Lübke (COR Sitzmöbel Helmut Lübke GmbH & Co. KG, DE) as well as Dr. Marcella Ruschi Mendes Saade (Technische Universität Graz, AT) and Prof. Richard Taylor (University of Oregon and Fractals Research, USA) for their inspiring impulse talks!

LECTURE AND EXCURSION FOR ARCHITEKTUR IN PROGRESS

Anastasija and Martin Lesjak represent INNOCAD architecture and 13&9 Design with the keynote lecture “Neue Ganzheitlichkeit” during the architecture excursion days hosted by architektur in progress! Their talk, including the latest architecture, interior, and product design projects with a focus on human-centered design as well as their recently founded SciencDesignLab, takes place on July 8th at 7 P.M. at LAUFEN innovation center in Gmunden-Engelhof. Additionally, the architecture tour highlights Architizer A+ Award finalist “Haus Salzkammergut,” a project in collaboration with Hinterwirth Architekten, for Raiffeisen, located at an important intersection in a developing area of Gmunden, Austria. This flexible, mixed-use complex is a significant unifier within its urban context, given the dissimilar assortment of nearby buildings and typologies.

On June 14th at 7 p.m. Martin Lesjak will be a guest panelist at „Ö1 Joanneums-Gespräch” at the ORF RadioKulturhaus discussing the subject “Geschichte im Raum. Zum Wechselspiel von Mensch und Natur.“ In this panel, a group of cultural scientists, museum experts and artists will also reflect INNOCAD´s new multi-sensory exhibition „how it was. Space and History” at Museum für Geschichte as well as how the traces of history challenge and inspire science and art.

Martin Lesjak represented INNOCAD architecture in the panel discussion at Perspective Virtual Forum Northern Europe hosted by The Plan . The cultural program of the two-day online event, that took place on May 18th and 19th, focusses on networking activities, latest industry updates in architecture, design, as well as construction and offers interesting panel discussions, addressing current issues and involving leading figures in the field. Lesjak elaborated on “A Journey through Space and Materiality” on May 19th from 6-7pm together with Peter Ippolito of Ippolito Fleitz Group, Natalia Nikolopoulou of Studio Modijefsky, and Alfred Berger of Berger+Parkkinen.

ACCREDITED CEU “FRACTAL FLUENCY IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT”

In September 2020, Mohawk Group will host the latest presentation in its Resourceful CEU series and debut an accredited session that showcases an emerging body of work in the realm of biophilic design. “Fractal Fluency in the Built Environment” will focus on the intersection of science, design and art, and the concepts behind a stress-reductive approach to commercial spaces. The hour-long course will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. EST to accommodate guests tuning in across different time zones. Each CEU is free to attend virtually, but attendees must register to view and receive credit through AIA and IDCEC. Register via link below.
