hospital / story extension / context of existing and new building / welcoming, natural light / finely woven

LKH Feldback’s extension consists of adding another level to its south building. The additional story includes a variety of examination and treatment rooms, which could also be transformed during a second conversion phase into an interdisciplinary special class station. This was a unique challenge for the INNOCAD team and required thoughtful planning and flexibility in the concept. The aim and the outcome is a brighter, hotel-like atmosphere, achieved through a central communication area and waiting zone, awash with natural light through a skylight. The generously appointed foyer and reception area is surrounded by various seating niches and provides intimacy and a relaxing atmosphere with its soothing central copper-colored room furniture. All ambulance, therapy and service offices are connected and radiate through this central area. These rooms also offer relaxing natural light by room-height glazing that opens to a generous outside terrace which acts like a park. In addition to its use as sun protection, an expanded metal façade is “woven” together with the new plant pots whose design follows the previous shape of the existing building and connects to the new extension. The façade unifies the entire building by simultaneously interlacing the old construction with the new extension.

PROJECT PUBLICATION ON NEXTROOM

We are pleased that our PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT of the Regional Hospital Südweststeiermark, site Deutschlandsberg, has been included in the nextroom collection.
Nextroom is a non-profit association dedicated to communicating architecture. Its focus lies on documenting realized projects of high architectural quality and building a long-term archive through the platform nextroom.at. The collection primarily covers Austria and neighboring countries.

The feature highlights the hospital’s extension with a dedicated palliative care unit and explores how architecture can contribute to quality of life and provide meaningful support for patients and their families.

ABB FROZEN MUSIC EPISODE

ABB FROZEN MUSIC EPISODE

At our new hotel building, THE ROCK - Radisson RED Vienna, we implemented ABB products for controlling and adjusting lighting, sun shading and temperature in the rooms as well as the public areas. The Swedish-Swiss company collaborated with us on the #17 episode of Frozen Music, a video series that presents unique building projects and the architects behind them to their global community. Katrin Förster thematized the design approach in an interview with CEO Martin Lesjak and project lead Oliver Kupfner, as well as relevant topics such as added social values.
