The design concept for CASA W, a single family house in the mountainous area of Graz, Austria reflects a symbiosis of dynamically generated ground topography with contemporary architecture. INNOCAD uses these principles to create a fluent fusion of modern construction and rural surroundings. Following the behavior of natural growth, the building expands out of the hill`s rough relief creating the illusion of a floating structure with an open view overlooking the city. The idea of sedimentary rock formations is translated in to two minimalistic, layered concrete blocks that balance the ambiance of indoor and outdoor living. The shifted elements as well as whole layout of the building are constructed using converging lines according to the shape of the site. By creating a relationship between angles and edges, the functional relevance is contained by partly covering the left shifted ground block with the right shifted top block. The precise calculated shifting achieves a balance between the entry way's covered zone and the exposed areas on the ground block. The persistence of the zones flows consistently from the exterior into the interior without strict separation, creating top and bottom landscapes ─ a pool, lounge and plants as well dining, lounging, working and sleeping areas. The absence of railings, transition of the light and low inserted gardening blurs the boundaries between the living spaces with wonders of nature, creating one dynamic area that unifies contemporary architecture with the landscape.
