modification rooftop apartment / meatpacking district / mixture of european design and NY lifestyle / a tribute to marilyn / 2011
Nestled between the vibrant Meatpacking District and Highline Park in New York City, this rooftop penthouse apartment was redesigned to merge client’s values and needs with this city, a constantly changing medium. The concept optimized functionality, enhanced the space usage, and created an aesthetic language that mixes European design with a New York vibe by creating a fresh atmosphere that is simple and sophisticated but also allows urban casual living. The layout, materials, and choice of colors represent both high quality performance and the need for interactive living, echoing in each room: an inspiring cityscape. The lighting concept diverts from countless city spots demonstrated through light curtains and track systems which offer flexibility and unique impressions. The light, transparent curtains transcend the daily and artificial light, softening the edginess of the space, objects, and panorama. The heart of the apartment, a customized Marilyn Monroe relief wall, defines and divides the common living area, becoming a functional and artistic homage to this extraordinary city.
