The design of the ÖBB CREATIVE LAB in Vienna, a multifunctional, open space, follows the vision of the distinctive corporate identity of the Austrian railway - translating the motion of mobility and travel into the interiors. The dynamism and the rhythm of the passing landscapes - as sequences of the visual sensations during train travel - has been translated into flexible screens in the form of printed curtains. The floating textile room dividers enable modular arrangements with more than twenty room configurations that serve individual and community needs and moods such as work, workshops, recreation, lectures and events. The infinite printed curtains show graphically abstracted lake scenery that is both inspiring and relaxing, and also offers an acoustic puff as well as different lighting in the open space. A variety of the flexible furniture can be easily rearranged or stored according to the different usages of the room. The diversity of the high and low furniture underlines the balance between active exchange and well-being through a pureness in the design functionality and the spaces aesthetics which supports the creative laboratory’s overall purpose.
