Located in an existing building in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, XAL’s New York office integrates a customized, sophisticated lighting system with an open office floorplan. The light-acoustic ceiling panel composition, developed together with XAL, spreads throughout the open workspace. It aligns with freely positioned Trigon workplace systems below, designed by INNOCAD´s inhouse product design studio 13&9, forming a complimentary geometric plane. At the same time, the modular light system introduces a second ceiling level, without enclosing the room or lowering its height. Bordering rooms surround the open workspace, hidden behind a mirrored glass ribbon, emblazoned with a “light and human-being” themed graphic. The adjacent spaces house manager offices, a meeting room, service, storage, server room, and sanitary area. A golden color palette applied through acoustic wallpaper is used to optimize room functionality and act as a visual connection between separate parts. Existing wooden flooring throughout combines with glass, metal, and acoustic felt to form an architectural dialogue between hard and soft, and old and new.
