"we wanted to design, we wanted to build and we were tired of our student flats" / urban densification / layering of two housing generations / extravagant and simple / pre-fab-system / low-cost / common courtyard / "Sportsbar" / sundeck & barbeque
By superimposing two generations of houses, the team at Innocad creates a fruitful association with two living philosophies. Here the team offered two different types of renovation and extension: one is the street-facing renovation, highly extroverted, with big windows; and the one floor house in the protected courtyard, introverted, with small windows. Here the most widely varying identities – introverts and extroverts – can come together to animate the common living space. The team used two wooden cubes to create a unique relationship with each other. The design maintains consistency with the cubes that share the same shape, material, construction (prefabricated board elements) and a seemless integration into the existing building and offer a dialog with each other. The urban monotony of the Graz city fringe is burst wide open here with this confident design.
