Mohawk Group’s collaboration with INNOCAD and its product design studio 13&9 Design has expanded its boundaries by launching two new product collections, Topography and Moonscapes, as well as completely redesigning Mohawk’s permanent Merchandise Mart showroom in Chicago that launched during NeoCon in 2016. The design concept aims to create a transformative atmosphere by providing a multifunctional and flexible open space which serves as a stage, presenting flooring products that offer an aesthetic and emotional appeal. Rather than using a traditional showroom approach that showcases product like artwork, INNOCAD’s design combines the look of a contemporary retail venue with the energy of an exhibition space. Functional service features are masked behind two-sided, slightly angled mirrored walls that cause the scale of the space to change visually, transforming it into a multidimensional installation. The effects using the angled mirrors raises the ground into the third dimension and creates a unique flooring landscape experience.
