ST. PETER HAUPTSTRASSE
NEW CONSTRUCTION OF A MIXED-USE BUILDING IN GRAZ
competition: 1st prize
- Masterplanning & Urban Design
- Exterior Architecture
The multi-use building, housing a café on the first floor, 18 serviced apartments and a shared rooftop, is located at one of the city’s busiest traffic entrances in the south-west of Graz. From the outset, the design of the infill sought to balance the site’s challenges and possibilities by minimizing traffic noise and taking advantage of the depth of the plot. The concept of a terraced structure allows to keep the line to the adjacent volume in the south and enable natural lighting in the deep plan building. The upward staggered floors create qualitative living units with a high level of privacy and tranquility. The fully furnished apartments follow along the idea of micro-living by compensating the optimized surface area with a generous, private loggia and shared amenities that foster interaction and communication within the residence and the neighborhood.
