private space for young family / rhythm of life / hillside location / split-levels / tradition & innovation
This single-family residence responds to the rhythm of the young family that lives there and changes and grows in response to the natural cycles of their family. With communication areas and private retreat spaces, the INNOCAD team thought about flexibility, both long and short term. The spaces are thought of as units that can be combined or used individually providing a multitude of options whether it is short-term (depending on time of day) or long-term (while children are growing up). Keeping in mind privacy issues and the need for sharing, INNOCAD designed a split-level solution where the traditional housing functions are invigorated folding across the entire length and dividing the structure of the building. Responding to the requirements of the hillside location and to the zoning of the plan floors, the petrol-green construction extends gently outside the hill, detaches from the ground and cantilevers above the property. Terraces and floor-to-ceiling glazing generate a smooth transition from outdoor to indoor.
