city villa in the historic protected zone of Graz / residential & office / no symetries / no facade-grid / transparent skin facing the park / families flexible lifestyle
The guidelines for new construction in the historical city center of Graz’s protected zone have been debated for many years. This debate was heightened during the planning phase of the construction of a new city villa in an exclusive residential area. The discussion centered around whether contemporary architecture destroys the beauty and order of grand and elegant houses. Should a city be a dynamic organism or a historic theatrical backdrop? Do we have to preserve the city in its existing state? INNOCAD believes that cities must never degenerate into a romantic idea or turn into a theme park. The tension that exists between tradition and the new defines both a city and its inhabitants. This project is the result of INNOCAD’s vision and approach.
